Paint Effects- Oil Glazes

Oil glazes are one of the most popular of Imaginative Interiors' wall finishes, as the effect itself is quick, versatile, stylish and very beautiful.

Oil glaze is actually a generic term Imaginative Interiors uses to describe an effect that is created by blending two or more oil based colours together to achieve a consistent yet broken pattern.

These 'patterns' can range from the remarkably soft and delicate to the more dramatic, but which ever style is chosen the finish will always have a beautiful depth of colour.

The advantage of combining more than one colour in a single finish is that the perfect colour scheme can be achieved as all key colours of the room can be subtly represented. If you’ve ever tried to co-ordinate wallpaper, curtains, carpet, furniture and accessories than you will appreciate how useful this could be.

Oil glazes work brilliantly on walls that are in poor condition as it has the ability to hide many imperfections. It also works brilliantly in a two-tone stripe, giving any room a sense of elegance and style.

These samples each show a three-tone oil glaze using different colours.

three-tone gradiated oil glaze

These walls have been painted with a three-tone gradiated oil glaze to compliment the floor and furniture. The fire surround was painted to look like faux leather.

oil glaze, stencilling, distressing

The walls of this dining room have been treated with a loose three-tone oil glaze. This combined with the stencilling and stylised distressed cabinet creates a dramatic yet harmonious look.
