Paint Effects - Faux Stonework

Faux stonework, or stone blocking as it sometimes called, is a wonderful effect and can be used in various ways.
Over the years Imaginative Interiors has painted entire fake stone walls, faux castle rooms, ruinous conservatories and sandstone banisters.
People often think that the painting of faux stonework in their homes will make the room or area feel cold. This is not really the case as natural stone often has pinks, reddy browns and yellows in it.
As the stone is being hand painted one can use these warmer colours in conjunction with greys and greens to achieve some wonderful and highly realistic designs.
Faux stonework often works best in homes that either quite rustic in appearance or have a stone exterior.
As any type of stone can be recreated from Yorkshire to Sandstone, it is often fun to mimic a homes exterior stone inside. This creates great continuity and adds to the overall illusion created.

This conservatory was made to look much more rustic by creating the illusion of crumbling plaster revealing the homes original stone beneath.

This children's fantasy mural was commisioned for the medieval section of children's activity centre, 'The Time Machine'. Faux stone was painted so as to create the illusion of a castle courtyard with beutiful views beyond.
