Paint Finishes - Faux Wood & Dragging

This mdf office furniture was faux wood grained to look like real oak & burr walnut. Remember it’s not real wood!

Faux wood graining – faux oak and faux burr walnut.

This is not a real pine door. It was originally a flat white fire door and has been faux wood grained so as to look like it is really antique pine. The beading was also painted using trompe l'oeil techniques |
Wood Graining, like trompe l’oeil, is a paint effect that requires a high level of artistry. With wood graining the aim is to achieve a realistic looking wood effect that tricks the observer into thinking it is real.
Virtually any type of wood can be re-created by Imaginative Interiors as it prides itself on being able to copy a woods rhythm, growth pattern and colour.
Wood graining looks fantastic on doors, panels and table tops. If you already have some wood features in your home and want to replicate that look elsewhere then wood graining is the answer. If you have wooden doors and a dado rail why not have faux wood panels below the dado rail and create a grand or historical look.
Dragging can be used on either walls or furniture and as the name implies this technique involves dragging a specially mixed paint in order to create fragmented lines of varying widths. It can be made as bold or as subtle as you like and works in almost any sized room.
Dragging is also an excellent way of creating a representational 'faux' wood effect when the surface is not suitable for the more specialist wood graining effects.
Dragging looks fantastic in many areas of the home, especially below a dado rail or on kitchen cupboard doors. |
