Paint Effects - Distressing

more stylised distressed look so as to
compliment the oil glaze and stencilling on the walls.
Originally pine, this chest has been lightly distressed and then antiqued. Hand painted flowers were added to compliment the rooms floral curtains.

Distressing is another wonderful finish that can be used to give furniture a 'worn' or 'well used' appearance. Distressing has become much more fashionable in recent years and is continuing to grow in popularity today.
In essence the aim of distressing is to create a look that would have occurred naturally through many years of use. Through distressing it is possible to imitate a piece of furniture that has had its paint worn or perhaps chipped away by endless polishing or the comings and goings of generations.

Distressing can be done very heavily to make the surface appear very worn, or only lightly to create a more subtle effect. Whatever your desires the colours used and final effect of a distressed item are totally unique to you and your home.
